We were treated to a montage of the travels of the torch
before a truly haunting rendition of Abide With Me from Emili Sandé,
with a choreographed dance sequence.
This is the 10th Olympics that I can remember actively watching, and it’s always something of a tradition to settle down and watch the athletes come in.
As always, led by Greece and then in alphabetical order, we
all decided now would be a good time to play a variation of the Olympic
drinking game going around on twitter.
Countries people had never heard of, the sight of the Czech
Republic and their wellie boots, the fact that the US team were still streaming
in when the flag bearer was three-quarters of the way around the track.
Then the GB team came out and if people had felt a burst of pride singing the national anthem in front of the Queen, that was NOTHING to watching Sir Chris Hoy leading the team out in white shorts and gold trim!
