London 2012 Opening Ceremony: Pandemonium, Happy & Glorious

When the industrial age started with a mass of drumming led by Dame Evelyn Glennie, everybody sat up in amazement.
The tree came up and people poured out, heralding Britain’s Industrial Age (one of most vibrant parts of the performance).

I was surprised to see some negatives in my Facebook timeline, but in front of us, it was a staggering performance.

Happy and Glorious

The comedy sketch with the Queen and Bond was brilliant, culminating with two people diving from the helicopter, and the Queen’s arrival in the Royal Box.

All rose for the national anthem and the raising of the flag – it’s hard not to descend into jingoistic fervour, but to sing the national anthem, as the flag is being raised, in front of your monarch is something quite special, and something I doubt I will ever have a chance to do again.
